Our Best Man Speech Template isn’t just a generic script – it’s your fast track to delivering a best man speech that’s funny, heartfelt, and 100% free of awkward silences.
Speechy is a team with credibility. We write for TV comedy shows and high-profile comedians, and even appear on panel shows ourselves. We featured on BBC Sounds’ Best Men podcast with Jason Manford & Steve Edge and we’re authors of ‘The Modern Couple’s Guide to Wedding Speeches’, so we know how to entertain a crowd.
We want to deliver a best man speech template that’s memorable for all the right reasons. And that’s why we’re rated ‘Excellent’ on Trustpilot.
How long? Aim for five to nine minutes (up to ten once you allow for laughter and pauses). That's roughly 1,000–1,100 words: no fewer than 750 and no more than 1,300.
Every Speechy template comes with a choice of speech themes, written by our professional scriptwriters, plus our editable Content-Creator questionnaire to help you uncover your best stories, and expert tips on delivery. It's not a fill-in-the-blanks script; it's a clever structure that turns your material into genuine humour and powerful sentiment.

(from the “A Rare Breed” theme)
You know it’s a special day when you put your phone on silent, you feel slightly ridiculous in your clothes and there’s free bottles of wine in front of you. Yes, today my (best mate & Jaggerbomb sidekick) has got married.
Now I’ve known (groom) for (xx) years and I must say, it’s surprisingly emotional watching a proper mate get hitched. It’s heart-warming, it’s romantic and it reassures me that amazing women can be attracted to men who… (Insert comedy ‘flaws’ you have in common with the groom e.g. – come from Norwich, work in IT and have a slight paunch).
(groom) and I are very close. I’ve supported him through the good times, I’ve supported him through the bad times but mostly, I’ve supported him home from the pub.
Now though, I’m officially off the hook.
Long enough to land a few big laughs and one proper heartfelt moment, and no longer. We recommend five to nine minutes (up to ten once you allow for laughter and pauses). That's roughly 1,000–1,100 words: no fewer than 750 and no more than 1,300. The best man speech should leave guests wanting more, not checking their watches.
Get your humour from real experiences with the groom, not from Googling "funny best man jokes" at 2am. Skip sexist gags, edgy one-liners and anything that needs explaining to half the room. The best laughs are affectionate, specific and true. Our template is built to help you land the laughs, dodge the cringe and balance the banter.
We rarely recommend including the stag do. Let's face it, it's an event specifically designed to lower the tone, so suggesting everyone behaved appallingly isn't exactly a surprise punchline. We'd only give it airtime if it was exceptionally boring (the groom insisted everyone visit a reasonably well-reviewed pencil museum), something exceptionally funny happened that would also amuse people who weren't there, or you're making a brief, vague allusion to still recovering. Otherwise, leave it on tour.
You still need to include them, and a meaningful nod to the groom's new spouse is part of modern best man etiquette, so put a bit of effort in. Ask the groom and mutual friends for some intel, talk about the change you've seen in your mate since they met, or say what you've noticed about them together. Specific and warm always beats generic.
Download instantly, pick one of our speech themes, work through our Content-Creator questionnaire to uncover your best stories, and follow the prompts.
Most best men get a first draft together in about an hour. You can then revisit and refine it as often as you like. Ideally before the morning of the wedding.
You'll also get a PDF of our expert rehearsal and delivery tips.
Ever wondered what it’s like to have professional comedy writers at your disposal? Well, now you do.
The Speechy team aren’t just wedding speech nerds – we’re TV comedy scriptwriters and stand-up comedians who’ve written jokes for everyone from Netflix stars to late-night talk show hosts.
Our speechwriting expertise has been featured in The New York Times to The Times and beyond. Basically, we know funny.
We work with a range of celebs and high profile figures and, although most of them take full credit for our work, BBC radio legend, Scott Mills, gave us a public thank you for helping him with his speech.
So, exploit our talent and take the credit. We won’t tell.

This isn’t some cookie-cutter “insert name here” template filled with dodgy dad jokes. Oh no.
We designed this to make you look good – helping you dig out the best stories, the funniest anecdotes, and the most meaningful moments that’ll get the room laughing and shedding a tear (the good kind, not the “get this guy off the mic” kind).
It’s structured so that your humour comes from your real experiences with the groom – not from Googling “funny best man jokes” at 2 AM.

Being funny is great. Being funny without accidentally offending half the wedding party? Even better.
Our template helps you land the laughs, dodge the cringe, and balance the banter.
✔ Heartfelt tribute to the groom? Covered.
✔ Meaningful nod to their new spouse? Sorted.
/>✔ Jokes that won’t get you disowned? Guaranteed.
With our template, you’ll be remembered for the right reasons – not for making Grandma clutch her pearls.

Ever sat through a wedding speech that felt longer than the ceremony? Yeah, we’re not about that.
Speechy templates are built around the art of great storytelling – not just a list of half-baked jokes or awkward waffle.
Each of our four Speech Themes offers you a new narrative to work with, helping you build momentum, land punchlines, and keep everyone engaged (yes, even the grumpy gran at the back).

We’ve all heard the same tired best man jokes a million times… and they weren’t funny the first time.
🚫 “Enjoy this moment, [Groom], it’s the last time you’ll have the upper hand!”
🚫 “The groom is lucky to have found such a wonderful, caring partner… now if only they’d found a decent spouse.”
Yeah. Hard pass.
Any edgy, inappropriate jokes don’t work either. Just check out the youtube evidence of best man diasters for yourself!
Instead of dodgy stand-up routines, our template helps you craft unique, personal humour that actually works. No lazy clichés, sexist gags, or awkward silence-inducing punchlines – just the kind of speech that’ll get the room roaring with laughter and toasting your brilliance.
